A Veterinarian’s Perspective on Saying Goodbye

The question I am asked most often about my work is, “Isn’t is hard to put pets to sleep?” What people really want to know is how do veterinarians handle the emotional stress of euthanasia and death. For more than a decade, I have been a veterinarian in hospitals throughout the Twin Cities. I’ve helped countless pets and pet owners through the process of euthanasia.

Dr. Sam Allen, founder of Northwest Animal Hospital passes away January, 8, 2014.

Allen, Sammy K., DVM 69, of Wayzata, MN, passed away on January 8, 2014. Born in Oblong, Illinois, he was the son of Samuel Otho and Lucile (Leggitt) Allen. Sammy was a graduate of the U of Evansville IN; the U of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine; the U of MN in Comparative Dermatology; and interned at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Allen founded the Northwest Animal Hospital in 1975 and practiced general medicine, as well as his specialty of dermatology and allergy.
